The art displayed here is created by the indigenous artists of the northwest coast, B.C. and the woodlands of Ontario. Artists of Nuu-Chah-Nulth, KwakWaka' Wakw, Salish, Tsimshian, Gitxsan, Ojibway, Tlingit' and Haida heritage have drawn on the wealth of their cultural backgrounds to produce works of art from which limited edition prints are made. These images are inspired by: ancient traditional designs found on cultural artifacts, by objects used in tribal life, from oral histories of fabulous beings, from scenes occurring in nature & family crests. Some artists stay in a traditional style with their designs, and others are exploring contemporary influences. Since 1968 Pacific Editions Limited has worked in collaboration with artists to produce limited edition silk-screen prints. As a distributor and supplier of Northwest Coast Indian Art Prints to private collectors and many museums (including: the British Museum, the Japanese Museum of Ethnology and the Canadian Museum of Civilization) Pacific Editions has gained an international reputation as a primary source of museum quality prints. |
